Myth of the Martyr (Mit Męczennika)

Dzisiaj przeczytałam artykuł Olgi Tokarczuk:

Tokarczuk pisze o "micie męczennika," który często wyłania się w Polsce w chwilach kryzysu. To interesujące czytać, jakie jest jej spojrzenie na ostatnią polską tragedię i wspólną reakcję, której była świadkiem.

Chcąc zrozumieć więcej, czytałam o Mickiewiczu, jego dramacie narodowym "Dziady," o idei Polski jako "Chrystusa Narodów" i roli cierpienia w obrazie Polski. Dostrzegam, że te koncepcje miały ogromny wpływ na to, jak określana jest polska historia oraz na to jak interpretowane są aktualne kwestie.

Muszę przyznać... że jestem nieco przytłoczona. Dopiero zaczynam o tym myśleć i pamiętam, że polska tożsamość jest bardzo złożona i mocno skostniała. Nie ma prostych odpowiedzi. Ale moja początkowa modlitwa jest bardzo prosta -- aby polska tożsamość była oparta na prawdziwym objawieniu Jezusa Chrystusa.

Chcę modlić się więcej. Jedynie Boża moc może przełamać oszustwo i wnieść światło prawdy.

Gdy w ten weekend flagi będą powiewać i będziecie świętować wolności związane ze świętem Konstytucji 3 maja, połączmy się w modlitwie, aby Polska przeszła pod panowanie Jezusa. On jest prawdziwym Twórcą
wolności i Jedynym, który określa przyszłość. Chwała dla Jego cudownego Imienia!

Olga writes about the "myth of the martyr" that often emerges in Poland during times of national crisis. It is interesting to read her perspective on Poland's recent tragedy and the corporate response she has witnessed.

Wanting to understand more, I have been reading about Mickiewicz, his poetic drama "Dziady," the concept of Poland as "Christ of Europe," and the role of suffering in Poland's self-image. I see that these concepts have powerful influence on how history is defined -- as well as on how present-day issues are interpreted.

I must admit ... I am a little overwhelmed. As I am just beginning to process all of this, I am reminded that Poland's identity is deeply complex and deeply entrenched. There are no simple answers. Still ... my initial prayer is simple -- that Poland's identity would be based on a true revelation of Jesus Christ.
