"Sandy"

Kiedy wróciłam do Stanów, wszystkie nagłówki wiadomości o wyborach prezydenckich zmieniły się. Teraz najważniejszą informacją jest huragan Sandy, który ma uderzyć we wschodnie wybrzeże. W tej chwili władze podejmują środki postępowania w sytuacjach kryzysowych i ostrzegają ludzi, by się przygotowali. Mówi się nawet o zamknięciu systemu komunikacji miejskiej w Nowym Jorku (autobusy, metro, itd.). Zmieniają się też plany Obamy i Romney’a na ostatni tydzień kampanii wyborczej.

Sytuacja ta sprawia, że przypominam sobie o tym, że narody, królowie, kobiety i mężczyźni mogą czynić plany i wierzyć, że mają wszystko pod kontrolą, jednak w rzeczywistości jesteśmy tacy niewielcy i pozbawieni mocy w porównaniu do wielkiego Stwórcy całej ziemi. Kiedy leciałam nad Oceanem i samolot wpadł w turbulencje, zdałam sobie sprawę, że potężna maszyna wypełniona setkami ludzi jest zaledwie małym kawałkiem metalu unoszącym się w ogromnym bezmiarze nieba. Nasi rządowi przywódcy mogą czynić śmiałe deklaracje i obietnice, ale nawet ich kolejny oddech jest uzależniony od łaski Boga.

Pamiętajmy codziennie o wielkości Boga. Módlmy się, by Polska i wszystkie narody ziemi zgięły kolana przed Tym, który trzyma wszystko w Swoich dłoniach. Proszę, dołączcie do naszej modlitwy w Stanach o ochronę dla tych, którym przyjdzie się spotkać z huraganem Sandy.

Głos Pana nad wodami, Bóg chwały zagrzmiał, Pan nad wodami wielkimi. Głos Pana potężny, Głos Pana wspaniały (...) Pan zasiadł na tronie nad wodami potopu, Pan zasiadać będzie jako król na wieki. Pan da siłę ludowi swemu, Pan pobłogosławi lud swój pokojem! (Psalm 29; 3-4, 10-11)

As I returned to the States this week, the news headlines that were all about the Presidential election have changed -- now the big news is hurricane "Sandy" about to hit our east coast. Even now, emergency measures are being taken and people are being warned to prepare. There is even talk of shutting down New York City's massive transit system (buses, metro, etc.). President Obama and Mitt Romney's strategic plans for the final week of election campaigning have been changed.

I am reminded that nations, kings, men and women may make plans and believe they are "in control" -- but we are so small and powerless compared to the great Creator of all the earth. As I flew across the ocean and the plane began bouncing in the rough air, I realized that the huge jet filled with hundreds of people was but a small piece of metal floating through the vast expanse of the heavens. Our government leaders can make bold declarations and promises, but even their very next breath is determined by the mercy of God.

May we be reminded daily of the greatness of God. Let us pray that Poland and all the nations of the earth would bow their knee before the One who holds all things in His hands. And please join us in the States as we pray for protection for those in the path of hurricane "Sandy."
