A Garden (Ogród)

Pamiętam jak w sierpniu 1996 roku po raz pierwszy spacerowałam po spokojnej okolicy w Ostródzie. Tamtejsze domy wydawały mi się ciekawe, bo różniły się od tych w Michigan, gdzie mieszkamy. Ale to, co pamiętam najlepiej, to piękne ogródki przy każdym z domów. Już wtedy zwróciłam uwagę, że wielu Polaków ma zmysł do pielęgnowania kwiatów i są świetni w ogrodnictwie.

Czytając Biblię zgodnie z moim planem, natrafiłam w tym tygodniu zarówno na I księgę Mojżeszową, jak i na Objawienie św. Jana. W I księdze Mojżeszowej 2; 8 przeczytałam, że Bóg zasadził ogród w Edenie. Czuję się zaintrygowana, kiedy o tym myślę, i jestem pewna, że ogród ten musiał być bardzo piękny. Wypełniony był obficie owocującymi drzewami i nawadniany był rzeką, która przez niego przepływała. Bóg powierzył opiekę nad ogrodem Adamowi i Ewie. Ale jak wiemy, okazali się nieposłuszni i musieli odejść. Nigdy więcej nie będą chodzić z Bogiem po ogrodzie w przyjemnym chłodzie dnia.

Natomiast w Objawieniu św. Jana 22;1-2 przeczytałam o rzece wody żywej przepływającej przez Nowe Jeruzalem, z drzewem życia przynoszącym co miesiąc owoc na każdym z jej brzegów. Piękny ogród został odnowiony i zgodnie z tym, co ogłosił donośny głos z tronu: „Oto przybytek Boga między ludźmi! I będzie mieszkał z nimi.” (Obj. św. Jana 21;3)

Boża opowieść rozpoczyna się i kończy motywem ogrodu. Od zawsze Bożym wielkim pragnieniem było żyć ze Swoimi ludźmi. A dzięki Jezusowi, znowu będziemy chodzić z Bogiem w chłodzie dnia, ciesząc się Jego słodką i wspaniałą obecnością przez całą wieczność.

Błogosławieni, którzy piorą swoje szaty, aby mieli prawo do drzewa żywota i mogli wejść przez bramy do miasta. (Obj. św. Jana 22;14)

A Duch i oblubienica mówią: Przyjdź! A ten, kto słyszy, niech powie: Przyjdź! A ten, kto pragnie, niech przychodzi, a kto chce, niech darmo weźmie wodę żywota. (Obj. św. Jana 22;17)

I remember the first time that I took a walk through a quiet neighborhood in Ostroda, Poland, in August 1996. The homes were interesting to me since they differ from those in Michigan where we live. But what I remember the most were the beautiful gardens next to each home. I realized even then that many Polish people have a fine appreciation for flowers and they excel in gardening.

This week in my Bible-reading schedule I found myself in both Genesis and Revelation. In Genesis 2:8, I read that God planted a garden in Eden. I am intrigued to imagine God planting a garden, and I am sure that it must have been a most beautiful place. The garden was filled with lovely fruit-bearing trees, watered by the river that ran through it. God entrusted the care of the garden to Adam and Eve, yet, as we all know, they disobeyed and were forced to leave. No longer would they walk with God in the garden in the cool of the day.

Yet in Revelation 22:1-2 I read about the river of the water of life flowing through the New Jerusalem, the tree of life on each side of the river yielding its fruit every month. The beautiful garden has been restored and not only that, but as the loud voice from the throne proclaimed, "Now the dwelling of God is with men and He will live with them" (Rev. 21:3).

God's story begins with a garden and ends with a garden. His great desire has always been to live with His people. Through Jesus, we will once again walk with God in the cool of the day, enjoying His sweet and glorious presence for all eternity.

Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. (Rev. 22:14)

The Spirit and the Bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life. (Rev. 22:17)
