Spring is Coming! (Wiosna idzie!)

Będziemy czekać i zobaczymy.

(Ps. 80:19-20; Ps. 85:7-8; Izaj. 57:15; Dz. Ap. 3:19)

Wiosna idzie!!!
As I watch the snow falling from the sky, I ask the same question as you, "Gdzie jest wiosna??" We have twelve college students coming to Poland next week and I keep promising them that "wiosna idzie." But who knows? We will wait and see.

I actually enjoy winter. Living in Michigan, I like the snow. It is beautiful on our pine trees. The sun shining on the glittering white flakes is a wonderful sight. We like to throw snowballs, go skiing and sledding, and make "snow angels." But after a few months of seeing only white, I long for spring.

I long to see the first buds appear on the trees ... to watch as the tiny green shoots reach up from the earth ... to hear the drip, drip, drip, as the ice begins to melt and the snow fades away ... to see the frozen lakes start to thaw and the storks return to their nests ... to smell the freshness of the air and be awakened by the singing of birds ... to notice a bunny hopping across the field and a robin strutting her red breast ... to feel the warm breeze on my face ... to gaze at puffy white clouds, floating through a blue sky. It is a time of awakening ... a time of rebirth ... a time when the "dead" becomes "alive" and the grey turns to green.

And this is my prayer for Poland. O God, would you bring "springtime" to the hearts of the people of Poland? Would you thaw the frozen heart and replace it with a soft, warm heart of flesh? Will you take dead relationships and make them alive? Will you stir new, true thoughts in each mind and attitude? Will you blow the sweet wind of your Spirit across this land, bringing refreshment in its path?

Maybe you remember the scene from C.S. Lewis' "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe," as Aslan arrives in Narnia and the winter that has been there so long begins to turn to spring? Remember when Aslan blows his breath on the frozen statues and they come back to life? Remember the feeling in your heart as you read these words or watched it on the screen? It is the power of God alone that can bring springtime to the hearts of men. Will you do it, O God? Will you revive us and make us new?? Please, touch us with Your love! Please breathe on us, O breath of God! (Ps. 80:18-19; Ps. 85:6-7; Isa. 57:15; Acts 3:19).

Wiosna idzie!! (Spring is coming!)

Without Hesitation (Bez Wahanie)

Pisząc ten list, jadę pociągiem z Wrocławia do Legnicy.

Mateusza 9;36)! Daj nam Twoje słowa, by mówić! Daj nam ducha odwagi, miłości i radości, kiedy będziemy spotykać ludzi w ciągu dnia. Daj nam możliwość, by "głosić życie", gdziekolwiek pójdziemy. Niech imię Jezusa będzie
wyniesione, by przyciągnął do Siebie Polaków. Cała chwała dla Niego!
I am typing as I ride on a train from Wroclaw and Legnica.  As I look out over the fields, I realize that God IS giving me new eyes for Poland.  He is stirring an even greater love for your country in my heart, and I am thankful for the work of His Spirit in me and in you.
I look around me at the people on this train.  Some are sleeping, some work on computers, some listen to mp3 players, some are reading … and I wonder if they know Jesus.  Sometimes I meet people on trains, planes, trams, and they ask me why I am in Poland.  I often explain about our work with children, with musicians, and with the churches.  But I am thinking now that I need to be more bold.  Why not tell them that my greatest love in life is Jesus and that He is the reason I am in Poland?  Why do I hide my greatest passion?  Of course, we must be sensitive to people and be wise in our conversations, but I am convinced that I should be more honest and bold as I speak.  I want to be ready at any moment to give the reason for the HOPE that is in me (I Peter 3:15).  I want to speak freely of Jesus without hesitation (Romans 1:16).
I pray the Holy Spirit will be seen in each of us.  May we be a sweet fragrance of the very presence of Jesus in our everyday lives (II Corinthians 2:15).  O Lord, give us Your heart for the lost (Matthew 9:36)!  Give us Your words to speak!  Give us a spirit of courage, love, and joy as we meet people throughout the day.  Give us opportunities to “speak life” wherever we go.  May the name of Jesus be lifted up so He will draw the people of Poland to Himself.  All glory to Him!

New Eyes (Nowe oczy)

Więc, modlę się o każdego z was. Modlę się, aby Bóg dał wam Swój wzrok.

Boże daj nam Swoje oczy. Daj nam NOWE OCZY dla Polski!

This email is all about "eyes."

God has been putting on my heart this prayer, "O God, please give me NEW EYES for Poland."  Sometimes it is easy to look at the situation in Poland and see only the negative.  It is easy to see the many problems, the lack of faith, the hopelessness, the apathy.  Even in the Church we see division and a lack of passion for the things of God.  Everything begins to look too difficult, as though it will never change.

And so I am asking for NEW EYES.  I want to see with God's eyes.  I want eyes of faith.  I want eyes of compassion.  I want eyes full of hope.  I want to see with God's vision.  I want to see Poland not how it is now, but how God wants it to be.  There is a good future for Poland and I want to see it today and believe it for tomorrow.

I pray that the eyes of unbelievers will be open and they will see Jesus in all His glory and grace.  I pray we who believe will fix our eyes on Jesus (Hebrews 12:2).  May we focus our eyes on things above -- on the eternal things that will endure.

So, I am praying for each of you.  I am praying that God will give you His eyes.

O God, give us Your eyes!  Give us NEW EYES for Poland
!

Purim

Módlmy się, by kościoły w Polsce rozumiały odpowiedzialność modlitwy i troski o Żydów.

As I write this email, I am sitting in an apartment overlooking the city of Jerusalem. All week my husband and I have been in Israel, meeting and praying with Jewish believers. As we have walked down the streets, we have noticed several youth shopping at stores selling brightly-colored costumes. It is customary to dress up in costumes and act out the story of Esther in celebration of Purim, which is this Tuesday. Esther 9:20-28 reminds us that Haman tried to destroy all the Jews, but they were delivered because Esther went boldly before the King on their behalf. It is an amazing example of how God rescues his people when they fast and pray.
Being here in Israel with Jewish believers has reminded us that God has been faithful to preserve the Jewish people throughout the centuries. Satan has raised up many "Haman's" to try to destroy the Jews (e.g., Pharaoh, Herod, Hitler), yet the Jews still exist today. Not only do they exist, but the nation of Israel is strong, and 1,000's of believing Jews live in the Land.
Let us pray that the churches in Poland will realize their responsibility to bless and care for the Jewish people. Let us pray against anti-semitism and that Poland will be a friendly and safe place for the Jews. Let us pray for revival among the Jewish people. Let us pray that they will realize that the God who delivered the Persian Jews at the time of Esther has delivered all mankind through His Son -- Yeshua, the Messiah.

Hope (Nadzieja)

Piszę ten list w małym pokoju na ulicy Puławskiej w Warszawie. Jestem w Polsce!

I kiedy pokładamy w Nim naszą wiarę, On wypełni nas radością i pokojem, i będziemy przepełnieni Jego nadzieją.

"A Bóg nadziei niechaj was napełni wszelką radością i pokojem w wierze,
abyście obfitowali w nadziei przez moc Ducha Świętego
".

Chcemy błogosławić Izrael i wzrastać w miłości do Żydów.
I am writing this email from a small room on Pulawska street in Warsaw. I am in Poland! I am thankful to God for His faithfulness and provision.
It is a grey day, cold and wet. I am very tired.  I must confess to you that as I waited for my luggage at the airport, I was feeling discouraged. As I drove down the streets of Warsaw and watched the people walking about, I felt overwhelmed. I realized again that it is easy to speak about revival in Poland, yet it is difficult to live here day after day in the middle of what seems to be an unchanging greyness. It may be easy to lose hope and wonder if Poland will ever experience true spiritual renewal.
So I come to you today as an outsider, as a foreigner, trying my best to live among you and to understand how you feel and what you face each day.  Through God’s Spirit and with His help I hope to encourage you to keep going. We serve a God of hope. Hope is part of His character. And as we put our faith in Him, He will fill us with joy and peace, and we will overflow with His hope. My main prayer for each of you is Romans 15:13.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
May we pray this Scripture for each other and for all believers in Poland .  May hope abound as we keep our eyes on the God of hope.  May we be steadfast in our work, thankful for the victory we have through Jesus (I Corinthians 15:57-58).
(Tomorrow I fly to Israel to be with my husband for one week. We want to bless Israel and grow in our love for the Jewish people. We pray God will show us more of the purposes for Israel in these days and how we in the Church, both in America and Poland, can join together with them.)

W Ameryce nazywamy tę porę "Lent" - to czas postu i wewnętrznej refleksji poprzedzającej dzień zmartwychwstania Jezusa.

Módlmy się, by tradycje te nabrały nowego znaczenia. Jana 17;3). (Rzymian 8;11).

Więc, drodzy przyjaciele, czujcie się pokrzepieni. Bądźcie śmiali i odważni.

A few days ago I was shopping in a grocery store near our home in Brighton , Michigan. On the shelves I saw several “paczkis” – those delicious sweet pastries filled with jam or custard. I was reminded that this week is “Fat Tuesday,” the last day to indulge in such sweet treats before “Ash Wednesday.” In America we call this season “Lent” - a time of fasting and inner reflection leading up to the day of Jesus’ resurrection. I think in Poland this season is called “Wielki Post.”

Although it is a season of tradition and some of these traditions in Poland may have become meaningless, still it is a time when many people are thinking more about spiritual things.  Perhaps they will pray, make some sacrifices, consider giving to the poor, etc.  Let us pray that this year these traditions will take on new meaning.  Let us pray that during this time of reflection and penitence, people will actually have an encounter with Jesus.  Let us pray that the hearts of the people will be stirred to truly know Him (John 17:3).  Let us pray that Jesus will reveal Himself more and more to the leaders of the Catholic church and to all the people of Poland .  May we who are followers of Jesus be reminded that we serve a risen Lord and that the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in us!  (Romans 8:11)

So, my dear friends, take courage!  Be bold and brave!  God is strong and He is able to change the hearts of the people of Poland .  He hears our prayers and He will be faithful to you as you serve Him in faith.

(By the way, I will be flying to Poland this Thursday night (Feb. 26).  Please pray for safe travel as I come to your country.  Thank you so much.)

In the Center (w centrum)

W ten czwartek są urodziny Mikołaja Kopernika. Przyszedł on na świat 19 lutego 1493r. w Toruniu.

Niech będzie On przywrócony we właściwe miejsce w życiu Polaków.

This Thursday is the birthday of Nicolaus Copernicus.  He was born on February 19, 1493, in the city of Torun. Although Copernicus made many contributions in the fields of mathematics and astronomy, he is most known for his scientific theory of heliocentrism which placed the sun in the center of the universe instead of the earth.  His theory was quite controversial at the time, for it challenged what had always been accepted as truth.  Today we know that Copernicus was right. And now it is common knowledge that the sun is a source of life for the planets that revolve around it. How absurd to think that the earth could be at the center!

Yet as we pray for Poland this week, I think of Copernicus and wonder if there is again some confusion as to what (or who) is at the "center of the universe."  As we look at people's lives (including our own), who is at the center?  Is Jesus at the center?  Does everything we do and say and live for revolve around Him?  Or have we placed "ME" in the center and all of life revolves around our own selfish desires?  And what about the nation of Poland as a whole?  Is Jesus at the center or has He been replaced by systems created by man?

Let us pray that the people of Poland will realize that God is truly the Source of life and that everything good comes from Him.  May they see how futile it is to try to live life on their own apart from God.  May they take their eyes off of themselves and focus on Jesus, the Faithful One.  May they lean not on their own understanding, but trust only in Him.  May Jesus become the very center of their lives.

Please read Colossians 1:15-20. Jesus is the exalted one. He created the sun, itself, and He holds all things together. Please pray that the people of Poland will have a revelation of this glorious Jesus who is supreme above all. May He be restored to His rightful position at the very center of Polish life.
