Barczewo

Barczewo to małe miasto koło Olsztyna w północnej części Polski. Dzisiaj (22.08.09) dwa autobusy pełne muzyków przyjechały do Barczewa, by dać koncert muzyki gospel. W czasie gdy trwały przygotowania systemu nagłaśniającego, a zespół miał próbę, spacerowałam po tym mieście. Zobaczyłam muzeum (które było kiedyś żydowską synagogą), stary kościół luterański, kościół katolicki, więzienie i małe sklepy wokół głównego placu. Pod pewnym względem miasto wygląda na zapomniane. Wydaje się, że zwycięża tu alkohol i brak nadziei.

Ale tego wieczoru dźwięk radosnej chwały wypełnił ulice Barczewa. Byłam zdumiona wielkością tłumu, który zgromadził się na placu, by słuchać muzyki. Pewien mężczyzna z Barczewa podzielił się swoim świadectwem nawrócenia w prosty, ale skuteczny sposób. Grupa wierzących ma plany, by wkrótce założyć w tym mieście kościół.

Więc proszę Was, abyście modlili się za Barczewo - i nie tylko za Barczewo, ale za wiele podobnych miast lub wsi w całej Polsce. Niech uwielbienie wypełni ulice, a Jezus przenika serca ludzi (Efezjan 2; 12-13, Rzymian 15;13, Psalm 67;3).

Barczewo is a small town near Olsztyn in the northeast region of Poland. Today (Sat.) two buses full of musicians arrived in Barczewo to perform a Gospel concert. As the sound system was prepared and the band rehearsed, I walked throughout the town. I saw the museum (which was once a Jewish synagogue), the old Lutheran Church, the Catholic Church, the prison, and the small shops around the central plaza. In some ways, it appears Barczewo has been forgotten. Alcohol and hopelessness seem to prevail.

But this evening the sound of joyful praise filled the streets of Barczewo. I was amazed at the size of the crowd that gathered in the plaza to hear the music. One man from Barczewo shared his testimony of conversion in a simple but effective way. A group of believers have plans to begin a church in Barczewo soon.

So, I ask that you pray for Barczewo -- and not only for Barczewo, but also for so many similar towns and villages throughout Poland. May worship fill the streets and may the hope of Jesus penetrate the hearts of the people (Eph. 2:12-13; Rom. 15:13; Ps. 67:3).
