Kiedy ostatnio jechałam pociągiem do Warszawy, spotkałam dwóch studentów. Rozmawialiśmy przez dłuższy czas i zapytali mnie o moje wrażenia dotyczące Polski. Przyznali, że czasami czują się zakłopotani tym, że są Polakami. Powiedzieli, że wielu Polaków nie ma poczucia własnej wartości. Zachęciłam ich, wyjaśniając, że wierzę w to, że Polska ma ważną rolę do odegrania w Europie i że Polacy są wyjątkowi. Byli zaskoczeni, słysząc to ode mnie, ale widziałam, że wzięli moje słowa na poważnie.
Kiedy uczę się polskiej historii i kultury i kiedy spędzam czas w Polsce, zauważam, że często to, o czym powiedzieli mi studenci, jest prawdą. Sposób, w jaki niektórzy Polacy postrzegają samych siebie, nie zawsze jest pozytywny. Jest wiele czynników, które to wyjaśniają i może się wydawać, że to nastawienie wśród ludzi będzie zawsze takie samo. Ale ja wierzę, że Bóg jest w stanie zmienić wszystko.
Módlmy się, aby Bóg wniósł światło prawdy do serc Polaków tak, aby mogli poznać Jego prawdziwą tożsamość (II Koryntian 4;6). Niech On będzie tym, który podnosi ich głowy, by mogli być pewni tego, kim są w Chrystusie (Psalm 3;3). Kiedy umieramy dla samych siebie i żyjemy dla Jezusa, nabieramy prawdziwie życia i poznajemy nasz cel życia. Niech radość poznawania Jezusa stanie się realnością w życiu każdego polskiego mężczyzny, kobiety i dziecka.
Recently I was on a train to Warsaw and I met two university students. We talked for a long time and they asked me my impressions of Poland. They confessed to me that sometimes they are embarrassed to be Polish. They said that many Polish people do not have a good self-image. I spoke words of encouragement to them, explaining that I believe Poland has an important role to play in Europe and that the Polish people are special. They were surprised to hear this from me, but I could see they were taking my words very seriously.
As I study Polish history and culture and spend time in Poland, I am seeing that often what these students told me is true. The image that some Polish people have about themselves is not always positive. There are many factors to explain this, and perhaps it seems that this mindset among the people will always be the same. But I believe God is able to change everything.
Let us pray that God will shine the light of truth into the hearts of the Polish people so that they might know their true identity (II Corinthians 4:6). May He be the lifter of their heads so that they might be confident in who they are in Christ (Psalm 3:3). It is as we die to self and live for Jesus that we truly come alive and know our purpose in life. May the joy of knowing Jesus be a reality in the life of every Polish man, woman, and child.
